How to Climb the PWR Rankings: 8 Rules From the Formula
How to raise your PnL World Rating (PWR): which tournaments pay most, why consistency beats one big win, field strength, and reaching the next division.
The PnL World Rating (PWR) is a public formula, which means climbing it is not a mystery. Every rule below comes straight from PWR points = format weight × place share × field strength.
1. Play the big formats
Format weight is the biggest lever in the formula:
| Format | Weight |
|---|---|
| Hourly | 25 |
| 4-Hour | 40 |
| Daily | 75 |
| Weekly | 250 |
| PnL Monthly | 1,000 |
| PnL Quarterly | 3,000 |
| PnL World Championship | 10,000 |
A single PnL Monthly win is worth as much as 40 Hourly wins. Even a 10th place in a PnL Quarterly (330 at field strength 1.0) beats winning a Weekly (250). Short formats are good practice and steady points; the long formats move your ranking.
2. Always finish
Every finishing place in a rated tournament earns points — at least 3% of the format weight. A trader who enters and finishes many tournaments accumulates points that never expire.
3. Never get liquidated
A trader whom a liquidation leaves at 10% or less of the starting bankroll is marked Liquidated and ranks last — below every trader who simply lost. Last place still earns the minimum share, but you give away every place you could have taken. See leverage in trading.
4. A small profit beats a big gamble
Place = final result, and the place curve is steep at the top: 1st 100%, 2nd 65%, 3rd 45%, 4th 35%, 5th 28%. Reaching the top five consistently is worth more than an occasional win surrounded by blow-ups.
5. Seek strong fields
Field strength multiplies your points. It rises with the size of the field, the share of verified traders and the PWR of your opponents (up to 1.0 at launch). The same place in a big, verified field is worth more than in a tiny one. Flagship events — PnL Monthly, PnL Quarterly, the PnL World Championship and the Community Cup — are built to draw the largest fields. See field strength.
6. Use the whole tournament
Entry stays open for the whole tournament, and points for a place do not depend on when you joined. But a month-long PnL Monthly entered on day 25 gives you less time to build a result. Join long formats early. More in joining a tournament late.
7. Mind the tie-break
If two traders finish with the same result, the smaller max drawdown ranks higher, then the earlier entry. Controlled risk is not just safer — it can be worth a place. See max drawdown explained.
8. Verify and stay active
- Verify your phone — only verified traders appear in the World Rankings, and verification raises field strength for everyone you play.
- Five rated tournaments place you in a division.
- 180 days without a rated finish marks you Inactive — your points stay, but the mark shows until your next finish.
A sample month
At field strength 1.0, a month with:
- a 3rd place in the PnL Monthly (450),
- a 2nd place in a Weekly (162.5),
- a Daily win (75) and two Daily 3rd places (67.5),
adds 755 PWR — enough to move a new trader from Bronze through Silver (150) to Gold (500). Exact numbers for every place are in the PWR points table.
FAQ
What is the fastest way to raise my PWR? High places in the biggest formats with strong fields: PnL Monthly, PnL Quarterly and the PnL World Championship.
Can I lose PWR? No. Points are a career total and never expire. Your rank can fall if others earn more.
Do Hourly tournaments matter? Yes, they add points and practice — but at 25 points for a win, they rarely move the ranking on their own.
Does my own rating change my points? No. Field strength is measured on your opponents.
PnL World tournaments are simulated: trades are executed against live market data, but no real-money positions are opened on any exchange. Nothing here is financial advice.
