Trading Competitions for Beginners: A First-Week Plan

New to trading competitions? What to learn first, which tournament to enter, how to size trades and avoid liquidation — a simple first-week plan on PnL World.

· 3 min read

You do not need a big account or years of experience to enter a trading competition. You need to understand the rules, keep risk small and finish what you start. This guide is a simple plan for your first week.

What a beginner should know first

  1. Everyone starts equal. On PnL World every trader gets 100,000 Credits on the same live markets. Account size plays no part.
  2. The best return wins. Place = final result after fees and funding. A small positive result often beats bold trades that end in a loss.
  3. Liquidation is the worst outcome. A trader whom a liquidation leaves at 10% or less of the starting bankroll ranks last.
  4. Open positions count. At the end they are counted as if closed, with the exit fee.
  5. Every place earns rating points. Finishing matters — see the PWR points table.

Day 1 — Learn the terminal without pressure

Start in the Free Arena (practice, not rated). Place a market order, a limit order, a stop-loss and a take-profit. Close a position partially. Learn where your equity, margin and liquidation price are shown.

Day 2 — Your first rated tournament

Pick a Daily or 4-Hour tournament. Long enough to trade a plan, short enough to see the result the same day. Set three rules before you start:

  • Risk per trade: 0.5–1% of equity.
  • Maximum trades: five.
  • Leverage: as low as your position size allows — the cap (20×) is a limit, not a target.

Day 3 — Review

Look at your result, your max drawdown and your trades. Which trades followed your plan? Which were reactions? Write down one thing to change.

Days 4–6 — Repeat and add a long format

Play a few more short tournaments with the same rules. Then enter one long event — a weekly tournament such as the PnL Community Cup, or the current PnL Monthly. Long formats carry far more rating points and reward patience over speed.

Day 7 — Verify and check your rating

Verify your phone number to appear in the World Rankings. After five rated tournaments, you are placed in a division, from Bronze up. Your PWR grows with every finish and never expires.
