Hourly Trading Tournaments: Strategy for Short Formats
How to trade Hourly and 4-Hour trading tournaments: what changes in short formats, position sizing, fees, the last minutes, and how points add up in the PWR.
Hourly and 4-Hour tournaments are the fastest formats on PnL World. They run around the clock, finish quickly and let you compete many times a day. They also reward a different kind of trading from a month-long event.
What changes in a short format
| Hourly / 4-Hour | PnL Monthly | |
|---|---|---|
| Time to build a result | 1–4 hours | a month |
| Max leverage | 20× | 10× |
| Funding | rarely matters | adds up |
| Fees | matter a lot (more trades) | matter less |
| PWR weight for the winner | 25 / 40 | 1,000 |
Five rules for short formats
1. Have a plan before the bell. There is no time to find your idea mid-tournament. Know the levels on BTC, ETH and the rest of the basket before you enter.
2. Fewer, better trades. Every market order pays the taker fee on the full position. In one hour, five round trips can cost more than the move you caught. Use limit orders when you can wait — see market vs limit orders.
3. Size for one hour of volatility. Even in an hour, crypto can move 2–3%. At 20× that is most of your margin. A liquidated trader ranks last.
4. Decide your last-minutes rule. Open positions are counted at the end as if closed at the mark price, including the exit fee. Holding into the bell is a trading decision, not a default.
5. Treat it as a series. One Hourly result is noise. Twenty are a record. Points from every finish add up and never expire.
Joining late
Entry stays open for the whole tournament. Joining a 4-Hour with one hour left is allowed — but you have one hour to beat traders who had four. See joining a tournament late.
How short formats fit your rating
At field strength 1.0, an Hourly win earns 25 PWR and a 4-Hour win 40. Short formats are perfect for practice, consistency and early divisions — and, combined with long formats, they build a full record. See the PWR points table.
FAQ
Is an Hourly tournament just gambling? Not if the rules reward return after costs with a leverage cap and liquidation penalty. But one hour is short — judge yourself on many results.
What leverage should I use in an Hourly? The lowest that lets you open the size your plan needs.
How many Hourly tournaments can I enter? As many as you like; each has its own bankroll.
PnL World tournaments are simulated: trades are executed against live market data, but no real-money positions are opened on any exchange. Nothing here is financial advice.
